Members’ Day 2009: Resources for Success

Monday, November 16, 2009
Cornell Club  6 East 44th Street  New York, NY

Given the difficult business climate, several Investorside members contacted us in search of resources to help them conduct their business more efficiently and achieve greater market impact in a cost effective manner.

Investorside's Mission is to support our members in 2 ways:

Promotion - We built and maintain a website, Investorside.org and we organize annual conferences, member meetings and media communication to assist in marketing our member firms to both individual and institutional investors as well as to promote the growth of independent research.

Resources - Investorside offers members a forum to exchange information and ideas as well as access to shared resources. We have negotiated agreements with several vendors to provide products and services at a negotiated rate that is often less than the individual rate would be in an effort to help our members improve productivity and grow their businesses in the most cost efficient way.

To further assist our members in the successful marketing and execution of their businesses, we chose the theme of “Resources for Success” for Members’ Day 2009.  This theme complements the strategic vision Rich Leggett, Chairman of Investorside, articulated in his letter to members last year on “Leveling the Playing Field”, as access and utilization of these resources allow all of our members to compete at a higher level.

One of the goals for Members Day 2009 will be to introduce our members to our vast network of resources, both inside and outside of Investorside. Most of these resources are available now, however there a number of others that will be introduced at the event and will be available in the near future.

We are excited about the opportunity to co-ordinate the use of these resources, many of which were brought to our attention by members willing to collaborate and share their stories of success.  Some of the resources that will be addressed include:

              IRP Business Models

              Sales

              Marketing

              Distribution

              IT infrastructure

              Analyst mentoring and training

              Regulatory and Compliance

              CEO mentoring

              Research outsourcing

              Payment alternatives

              Human Resources

              Business Insurance

              Collaborative Investorside opportunities

Save the Date!  Plan to join us to learn more about the exciting opportunity to avail yourself of these services that will help you and your firm become more successful.

Mediahub Service Gaining Traction

October 5, 2009

A few months ago, Investorside recognized an opportunity to fill a critical need for our members by providing access to a distribution vehicle for press releases.  The cost of using an outside service and the manpower required to maintain a current database are prohibitive to many of our members.

We believe it is essential that our members get as much media exposure as possible, particularly with the end of the Global Settlement and the need to compete with bulge bracket firms who have vast resources for press exposure.

We secured access to Marketwire’s Mediahub Service, providing our members the opportunity to gain access to an extensive database of media contacts that is maintained and updated by Mediahub. Lisa Russo agreed to work with us as coordinator for this service and is available to assist with the writing and dissemination of press releases for our members.

We created several distribution lists such as U.S. daily and weekly newspapers, online and broadcast media, and business magazines in the U.S. as well as similar lists for Europe and the UK. We can also create customized target lists broken down by geography or topic upon request.

Several of our members have taken advantage of this service and have been pleased with the ease of use and the low cost in comparison to services like Business Wire, which typically charge 5 X the cost of distributing through Mediahub via Investorside. Through Mediahub we are able to distribute a press release to over 1000 contacts simultaneously and the database is constantly updated by Mediahub.

Our greatest success story to date has been a response we received from a major business magazine asking to interview someone from the subject firm on their daily TV show. The exposure for the firm was better than we anticipated and all because they received the press release.

We are delighted with the results we have had so far and look forward to increasing the number of members taking advantage of this service. If you have any questions or would like more information about the service, please contact Lisa Russo at lrusso@investorside.org or 203-247-09291.

Independents’ Day 2009

2009 Independents' Day Conference

Video Highlights of ID 2009

The Fifth Annual Independents’ Day Research Conference was held at the Bloomberg Conference Center in New York City on Wednesday April 8, 2009.  For the second year in a row, we set a new record for attendance and we were particularly pleased that over 50% of the attendees were from the buyside, thanks to the efforts of the New York Society of Security Analyst (NYSSA) and turnout of its members.  We believe the success of this year’s conference highlights the growing importance of Independent Research in the investment landscape.  Investorside is proud to represent the leading independent research providers who continue to innovate the way research is gathered and disseminated.

The purpose of Independents’ Day is to provide a forum for research providers to showcase cutting edge research techniques and present case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of their proprietary research methodology. Several of the case studies presented have been nominated for awards to be presented at the Annual Investorside Members Day conference on November 16th, 2009.

This year’s conference started off with a stunning presentation by Susan Duncan, representing the IBM Institute for Business Value, which projected the "Future of the Financial Markets Globally".   Susan’s presentation represented 18 months of work by a team of more than 60 researchers throughout the world who examined industry trends and cross trends to provide strategic insights into the global economy post economic crisis.
